Carbon Filtration

Carbon filtration handles taste, odor, and chemistry rather than hardness. Activated carbon pulls chlorine, chloramine, and various organic compounds out of the water through adsorption, which is why filtered water tastes cleaner and showers stop smelling like a pool. County water is treated with a disinfectant by design, so filtering it at the point of entry is about comfort and reducing what your skin and fixtures contact, not about the water being unsafe. Chloramine specifically needs catalytic carbon to remove effectively, since standard carbon struggles with it. Whole-House Treatment

Whole-house treatment means the system sits at your main line, so every tap, shower, and appliance in the house gets treated water instead of just the kitchen sink. Most builds are staged: a sediment prefilter catches grit, carbon handles taste and chemistry, and a softener addresses hardness, in that order. Well systems often need an additional stage for sulfur odor or iron staining, which typically means aeration or an oxidizing filter ahead of everything else. Sizing comes down to your flow rate and fixture count, since an undersized system chokes pressure when two showers and the washing machine run at once. Many homeowners pair whole-house treatment with a reverse osmosis unit under the kitchen sink for drinking and cooking water.
